The Christmas Phallacy

The Christmas Phallacy
And other holiday foibles

Christian, according to the xian masses, means to be Christ like in all you do. To these people Christ was a man who gave his all, including his life, for the people. A martyr in all he did constantly giving of himself. Many Christians claim to strive to live like this man. Based on this foolish notion of perfection and giving the Christian horde has done everything in their power to duplicate this mans supposed charity. To this end they have created everything from soup kitchens to the charity organization, well fare to food stamps, all based on this unfounded idea of love for all mankind, and giving freely to the less fortunate. The Satanist says; see it for what it really is an illusion, a smoke screen set up for social and financial gain. It is without doubt a house of mirrors built by the more fortunate to make them appear the better person to all who can see, and forced into the faces of all who care not to see. The biggest farce of this sort is the holiday, on this scale even the poor feel obligated to spend their money in the name of Christian charity. The worst of the lot is Christmas.

Christmas according to the Webster’s Universal College Dictionary is, “The annual festival of the Christian church commemorating Jesus’ birth, celebrated in the western church on December 25th”. This date has changed numerous times over the centuries since this holiday’s inception and is celebrated on different days completely in other parts of the world. I am sure we have all heard the debates regarding the actual birth date of Jesus so I will not rehash them here. I do, however, feel it necessary to give a very brief outline on the history of Christmas itself.

During the 12th and 13th centuries when the Orthodox Church was making in roads into parts of Europe that remained pagan, they found that many of the people would come to their houses of worship on Sunday yet continue their pagan and magical practices at home. There were a number of festivals held during the year that included one called Yule. This was held during the winter months and was a celebration of the end of harvest and the coming of the New Year. This celebration lasted for a week or more and in some customs included the idea of the death of the Horned God and hope for his rebirth in the spring. The Christian church saw the continuation of these celebrations as a hindrance to their gospel and needed to do something about it. Like they have done in so many rich cultures around the world they actually borrowed the idea of a winter celebration and replaced the Pagan gods with their Jesus; Thus the birth of Christmas.

The celebration of this lie has continued until the present day and shows no sign of dieing anytime soon. The question becomes, how can a holiday based on a lie hold any spiritual or magical merit? It doesn’t, this holiday has grown, in our consumer society, into an over-blown, overt, pretentious excuse for greed and gluttony. It is a Holiday geared towards making the common man a perfect little consumer and big businesses all the more wealthy. The old axiom “strike while the iron is hot” is here in its truest form. All year long the fire is stoked, the bellows pumped and the steel heated, Exactly 24 hours after Thanksgiving (another merit less holiday) the hammer falls and the shopping begins. Suddenly, as if by magic, the wonders of the holiday season bloom around us. Gaudy decoration, flashy lights, pitiful excuses for music (isn’t Rudolph the red nosed reindeer catchy?); candy, fairy tales and the thought of free toys all entice us to "get into the spirit", the spirit of spending. Who wouldn’t be a little bright eyed, giddy, and high off of sensory input to the point of ecstatic empty headed-ness? So we decorate and socialize, we buy gifts for people we hate 364 days of the year and invite them to our homes for parties. We struggle home with an evergreen tree that turns brown and ends up laying in the front yard for a month lonely strands of tinsel shining mutely in the winter sun. This tree pokes, prods and falls on us in our useless war to beautify nature (I would fight too). We risk electrocution and broken bones setting up little colored lights that serve only the purpose of running up the electric bill.

Our children see this carnival from their first year and after that it is all down hill. Every year they expect more of the same and, with the help of the Great American Brain-washing Machine, television; they are introduced to the biggest, best and usually most expensive toys and gadgets. We carry this with us into adult hood feeling compelled and trapped by tradition. We wander around in a mix of annoyance and anxiety, balancing our check-books, re-balancing and then using credit cards as if the word translates from some foreign language into free. And faithfully this is passed on to the children, and they to theirs, in a never ending flux of goggle-eyed buyers of stuff.

All this pain and suffering for what? Many xian’s would ask what of Jesus? I would answer “What of him?” 95% of the people I encounter during this holiday season would claim to be Christian yet les than 1% of them spend any time at all thinking of their god during this time. They don’t so why should I?

This is by no means the only holiday that is profit based. There are the holidays I refer to as Hallmark Holidays. Mothers and Fathers Day, a myriad of other (put name here) Days and Valentines Day. Everyone a manufactured holiday supposedly designed to give you a moment to pay homage to someone who means something special to you. Hogwash! If you have someone that special there is no need for a day where you, along with the rest of western humanity, show your appreciation of that person. It should be a daily thing, a gentle touch, a kiss; a heart felt I Love You, a conversation where you really listen to what the other person is saying. These are all important to a healthy relationship with anyone, not remembering a holiday.

Finally there are the holidays that do have some modicum of meaning left yet I see them also sliding into the morass of consumerism. Holidays like Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and hell even Cinco de Mayo all should hold some special meaning to us as Americans. I remember a time when these celebrations were filled with parades, cotton candy, hot dogs and fireworks that went on all night. Driving down any city street you would find American Flags proudly displayed at every home, every store, every building and you were proud to be an American. Now these holidays are excuses to Bar-B-Cue and make a drunken ass of your self. The Fireworks stands make out like bandits and should you decide to go out and see a fire works display you end up spending 10 dollars on parking, 20 on snacks, and 15 on gas just trying to get back home after a half-assed lackluster fireworks display. Money better spent on dinner and Blockbuster.

I am by no means saying avoid these holidays at all cost. On the contrary, should you be fortunate enough to have associates or family that insist on spending their money on these illusions then by all means indulge. Accept their gifts with huge smiles and loud thanks. Pile up your booty and feel no obligation to reply in turn. It is not your duty you, after all, are a Satanist and do not celebrate these holidays. Go home with a big bag of goodies and a pocket full of money that would have gone to gifts for others, a smile on your face and dreams of next year. I do it every year and every year they buy me stuff, I even turn in a Christmas list. If you have to suffer through it at least make it worth your while. Then of course there is the Egg-Nog, Margaritas, Bar-B-Cue, and parties the best things that have ever happened to the holidays. Indulge.

Many of you may be wondering now if there are any holidays I care to celebrate, and my answer is yes. My birthday is the most important one to me and I pull it off in grand style. Next is All Hallows Eve and All Hallows day, of course. Yes Halloween is also going the way of all the others but at least it is still fun. I also celebrate the anniversary of me and my Left-Hand Woman, which falls on All Hallows Eve, how convenient. Then there are a number of other personal days that I celebrate that would make no difference to anyone but me and the people I celebrate them with.

Yet and still it has to stop somewhere and the brick wall, the immovable object is the Satanist. I may have to acknowledge the existence of such foolishness, I may even take advantage of it, but I don’t have to participate.
